Game Overview
Denver’s record may be 2-3 both straight-up and against the spread, but with Peyton Manning starting to return to his All-Pro form, you get the feeling this team is about to go on a run. He has kept the Broncos in the game against Atlanta and Houston, which are a combined 10-0 and stood toe-to-toe with Tom Brady last week in a 31-21 loss to New England.
With Manning at the helm, Denver has the ninth-ranked offense in the NFL in both total yards and points-per-game and is ranked fifth in passing yards. If the Broncos can get a bit more production from its running game and some better all-around play from their defense, they will not only win this game but the AFC West title as well.
San Diego took a step backwards last week in 31-24 loss to New Orleans as a 3.5-point road underdog to fall to 3-2 both SU and ATS. The total has now gone OVER in three of its last five games. The offense continues to produce and has put a combined 61 points on the board in its last two games.
The Chargers have avoided their typically slow start with three wins in their first five games but the jury is still out on just how good this team really is. It has always had a habit of putting up some gaudy stats on both sides of the ball, but not having them translate into wins. This Monday could be more of the same in this key divisional rivalry.
Prediction:
If you like aerial displays and points on the scoreboard, then this Monday night matchup should be right up your alley. Peyton Manning and Philip Rivers have the potential to put the ball up a combined 100 times in this game, but in the end it will come down to which team’s defense does the best job at keeping the other out of the end zone. The slight edge here goes to Denver as it finally provides enough third-down stops to give Manning a chance to run the offense without trying to overcome a huge deficit.
