NCAA Football – Week 9
The Louisiana Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns are going to be playing in their second straight game on a Tuesday night, but this week, they are going to be at home when they battle it out with the Arkansas State Red Wolves in college football betting action.
The Red Wolves have just four wins in seven games this year, but when you really take a closer look at it, the only loss of any note was against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. That might very well be the loss that takes away the Sun Belt crown this year from Head Coach Gus Malzahn’s team, though there is still plenty of time to make up for it. As you would figure with a Gus Malzahn team, Arkansas State is flying all over the place offensively. QB Ryan Aplin has thrown for 1,572 yards and 11 TDs against two picks on the campaign, and he has 244 yards and three scores on the ground. RB David Oku is leading the team in rushing with 563 yards and seven trips to the end zone, and RB Rocky Hayes and RB Frankie Jackson have combined for over 400 yards between them as well. Watch out for WR J.D. McKissic, who has 46 receptions, 493 yards, and three TDs in 2012.
The Cajuns were upset by North Texas last week, and we must admit that we really aren’t all that surprised that that’s how things shook out. It was a bad spot for a team that was overhyped coming into the game, and now, the oddsmakers have backed off and have probably made ULL a heck of a lot more realistic of a team to play. QB Terrance Broadway is sure to have some better numbers than he had against the Mean Green, but the key is going to be getting the running game going. The running backs combined for just 25 yards and a TD on 12 carries, and that isn’t going to cut it whatsoever. Yes, Broadway and QB Blaine Gautier combined for plenty of rushing yards this year as well, but RB Alonzo Harris and RB Effrem Reed both average 5.1 yards per game and have combined for over 650 yards this year on the ground. The two also have three TDs apiece this year to boot, and they’ll need to find the end zone to win this game.
Prediction:
Many are going to jump right on the backs of the Red Wolves with their awesome offense on Tuesday, but we think that this is a game that is more suited for ULL to win and win by at least a full touchdown. The Malzahn offense hasn’t quite gotten up to full force yet, and that won’t happen this year in all likelihood. The Ragin’ Cajuns should get back to their winning ways. Louisiana Lafayette 36 – Arkansas State 28
