NCAA Football – Week 9

There are just three teams that are left standing in the Big East as undefeated clubs in conference play, but one of the two will get their first blemish on Friday night in NCAA football betting action, as the Cincinnati Bearcats face off with the Louisville Cardinals.

The Bearcats are coming off of their first loss of the season, a defeat at the hands of the Toledo Rockets. The question is whether that is a sign of things to come for Cincinnati, which has played a relatively easy schedule at the moment, or whether it was just a case of a really good MAC team taking down a scalp of a team that also was pretty darn good. One thing is for sure, and that’s that QB Munchie Legaux is going to have to take care of the pigskin to win this game. Legaux had a terribly timed pick to ruin any chance of beating the Rockets last week, and he has a terrible 53.3 completion percentage. What Legaux also brings to the table though, is the ability to run the ball. He has 264 yards and three scores on the ground, and he makes the other two rushers on the team, RB George Winn and RB Ralph Abernathy IV all the more dangerous. All three men are averaging over six yards per carry, and the three already have over 1,100 yards between them in just six games.

The Cardinals would be best served to blow the Bearcats out of the water if they want to prove that they belong in the BCS equation as anything more than a cute Big East winner. There are going to be at large spots up in the air, and losing a game like this one doesn’t disqualify Louisville from earning one of those spots, but one loss is all that the team can afford. Posting an impressive win against a team that only just lost its spot in the Top 25 this past week would go a long way towards helping the cause. Head Coach Charlie Strong has a team that just keeps finding ways to win close games, and he has a quarterback that is doing a fantastic job managing the game. QB Teddy Bridgewater is completing over 70% of his passes this year, and he only has three interceptions in his first seven games in his sophomore season. He is giving his team a chance to win games, and that’s about all that you can ask for when you’re talking about a team that has been built upon its defense all year long.

Prediction:

The Bearcats are probably good enough to win this game, and we think that they will, at minimum, keep this one within shouting distance. The Cardinals have been flirting with disaster for about a month now, and this might be the time that they finally get picked off. Cincinnati 27 – Louisville 24
