Game Overview

The San Francisco Giants are just three wins away from claiming their second World Series in the last three years. They hope to cut that number down to just two when they take on the Detroit Tigers in MLB betting action.

Detroit has to be shell shocked at the moment. The team could have never imagined Justin Verlander lasting just four innings in Game 1 of the World Series, and it could have never thought that allowing eight runs in the game was even remotely possible. Alas, regardless of whether the game came with a 1-0 score line or the 8-3 score line that it actually ended up being, it’s still only just one loss, and it is a loss that could be overcome very quickly. Doug Fister is the man that is going to be on the hill for this one, and he has a big time mountain that he has to climb if he is going to be the Game 2 winner. Fister really has done nothing wrong here in the playoffs, allowing just two runs in 13.1 innings of work, but he has been on the wrong side of two bullpen meltdowns. Fortunately for him, his team won both of those games, but Fister truly is unlucky not to be 2-0 here in the second season.

Pablo Sandoval is officially a hero. He blasted three home runs, two of which came off of the unhittable Verlander on Wednesday night, and he is helping out his offense which now has put together four straight victories by margins of at least five runs. What is lost in the shuffle with the great game that Sandoval had is that it was another great game for the pitchers for the Giants as well. Barry Zito lasted 5.2 and was relieved by Tim Lincecum who shut the door in the sixth and threw scoreless frames in the seventh and eighth. The problem is that the man that has been the worst starting pitcher of the bunch, Madison Bumgarner is going to be on the mound in Game 2. Bumgarner has allowed 10 runs in just 8.0 innings here in the playoffs, allowing 15 hits and two walks to go with three homers. Over his last four starts, Bumgarner has allowed a total of six dongs, and that just isn’t nearly going to cut it here in the second season.

Prediction

There’s something magical right now about what the Giants are doing. They had 31 home runs at home all season long, and they got three from one player on one magical night in October. With the way that the G-Men are playing, there is no reason not to back them on Thursday. San Francisco 6 – Detroit 3
