Game Overview

Game 3 of World Series betting action continues on Saturday night at Comerica Park, as the Detroit Tigers take on the San Francisco Giants.

It’s amazing to think that the G-Men have been underdogs in both of the first two games of this series. They’re now bona fide favorites, but they are playing in a position that they haven’t been in these playoffs: They’re up 2-0 in a series. Complacency is about the only worry that Manager Bruce Bochy has to have, as his team has just been pitching out of this world, and now that Madison Bumgarner had himself a heck of a start on Thursday night, the entire rotation has chipped in with big time performances. Ryan Vogelsong pitched arguably the game of his life against the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 6 of the NLCS, allowing just one run in seven frames. In fact, in his three playoff starts this year, the former Pittsburgh Pirate has allowed just a total of three runs in 19 frames. Say what you want about how Vogelsong is a junk baller and that he shouldn’t be pitching at this level, but in the end, in his 34 starts including the playoffs, Vogelsong has led the G-Men to a 22-12 record.

The time to push the panic button is officially here for the first time in the postseason for the Tigers. No longer is Justin Verlander there to bail the team out, and no longer is the team hitting all that well. It’s going to come down to grit and showing the ability to grind through the adversity, and it starts with Anibal Sanchez on the bump on Saturday night. Sanchez was the big time acquisition at the trade deadline by GM Dave Dombrowski, and it is a move that really has worked well. Sanchez threw seven shutout innings against the New York Yankees in the ALCS, but that was now almost two full weeks ago. Sanchez needs to make sure that he doesn’t look as rusty as the rest of the starting pitching staff has now that its routine has been all thrown off, or Detroit really could be down 3-0 and basically out of the series.

Prediction

And that’s really precisely what we think is going to happen. For as much as we liked the Tigers in the two games in San Fran, we like the Giants here in Detroit. We are starting to get the feeling that this series isn’t going back to AT&T Park, though Bochy would be happy with any given win to do just that if that’s what turns out to be the case.
