NCAA Football – Week 13
It has become a Thanksgiving Day tradition in the Lone Star State over the course of the last few years, but this year, the Texas Longhorns will be battling it out in NCAA football betting action against the TCU Horned Frogs instead of the Texas A&M Aggies.
The Horned Frogs have had a year that most teams would have folded in. It was the first year playing against top flight competition week in and week out, and the move to the Big XII came in a year when the conference was arguably the strongest in America. QB Casey Pachall is gone, and all of the top rushers from a team that was supposed to be one of the best running squads in the land this year have gotten hurt and missed at least some time. The defense that built the men in purple into a power has had several lackluster games as well. And yet, here are the Horned Frogs, posting a very impressive 6-4 season through 10 games that will end in a trip to a bowl game this year. The chance is still there to make it a significantly better bowl if QB Trevon Boykin can lead his team to the upset in this one. Boykin gets the job done with his legs and his arm, and he could be a real hassle for Head Coach Mack Brown to deal with.
Brown and the Longhorns have had a frustrating year at times as well. Every season is at least partially measured by the degree of success or failure that the team has against the Oklahoma Sooners. If that was the only measuring stick though, the year would be an undeniable failure, as OU posted a blowout win in the Red River Rivalry. However, there has only been one other setback on the season, and at 8-2, there is a real chance to be in the BCS by winning these last two games. Of course, there has to be some level of concern that the home finale will result in a letdown as the team gets ready for the Kansas State Wildcats next week, but Brown and his staff have to be drilling into his team the importance of this game. QB David Ash has the numbers of a star of a quarterback, as he has 17 TDs against just five picks this year. Still, the youngster has been pushed all year long by QB Case McCoy, the brother of the great Longhorn legend QB Colt McCoy. The ground game has been highlighted by bruising RB Joe Bergeron, who has 16 trips to the end zone on the campaign.
Prediction:
This is a game where we definitely want the points on our side. It just feels like the Horned Frogs are going to come out the more motivated of these two teams, and though they might not win it, they should make this a significantly more competitive game than the NFL game that looks to have the makings of a blowout going on at the same time. Texas 31 – TCU 28
