NFL Upset of the week: Week 14
The Philadelphia Eagles have given up on the season and another coach was fired this week as it was announced that the Eagles fired the defensive line coach. It was also announced that Nick Foles will be the team’s starting quarterback for the rest of the year, essentially ending Michael Vick’s tenure as an Eagle.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have lost back-to-back games and have to put together a string of victories to make sure they have a seat in the NFC playoffs. Since this game is in Tampa, the Buccaneers are listed as 6.5 point favorites. Although it seems like these teams are heading in opposite directions the upset of the week is the Eagles over the Buccaneers.
Although they have had a tough season there are some NFL trends in favor of the Eagle sin this game. The Eagles are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games after accumulating more than 150 yards rushing in their previous game, 8-3-1 ATS in their last 12 games in Week 14 and 4-0 against the number in the last four games in December.
Meanwhile the trends indicate that this is a letdown spot for the Buccaneers who will have divisional games on the horizon and could look past the hapless Eagles. The Buccaneers are 3-13 ATS in their last 16 home games vs. a team with a losing road record, 9-23-1 ATS in their last 33 home games and 0-5-1 ATS in their last 6 games in Week 14.
Josh Freeman and the Bucs are heading into a positive direction but have been inconsistent when they need it the most. This game against the Eagles is a game they need if they want to make it into the post season, but all signs point to a very close game.
The upset of the week is the Eagles +6.5 over Tampa Bay.
