NCAA Basketball Pick – December 21st
Another team from the depths of the college basketball betting world will prove to be nothing but fodder for the No. 6 Indiana Hoosiers on Friday night, as they take on the Florida Atlantic Owls at Assembly Hall.
FAU knows that this is a game that is all about the payday and not about even remotely competing. The club shoots just 39.3 percent from the floor as a team, and that isn’t going to cut it in the Sun Belt, let alone against one of the best teams in the Big East this year. G Greg Gantt is literally all that the team has to bring to the table. Gantt is the team’s leader in scoring at 21.5 points per game and is one of the top rebounders on the team as well with 5.8 per night. G Stefan Moody is averaging 15.0 points per game as well, but no one else on the club is good for more than 7.1 points per game. Tis the life of a middling Sun Belt squad though, and this is merely a chance for Gantt to strut his stuff in front of the rest of the nation.
Meanwhile, Indiana is still reeling from its first loss of the season to the Butler Bulldogs, one that knocked it down five spots in the Top 25 rankings. Vengeance was sweet against Mount St. Mary’s on Wednesday night though, as the team took out its frustration on the poor Mountaineers with a 93-54 victory in a game that was never even remotely close. This is the top scoring team in the nation at 89.2 points per game, and it would seem disappointing not to see at least 90 come on the board in this one against FAU. Gantt might be the top scorer on the court, and Moody might be the third highest scorer on the court, but the other top five scorers are all going to be wearing red and white. What’s scary is that we still haven’t seen the best play yet this year out of F Cody Zeller, G Victor Oladipo, F Will Sheehey, F Christian Watford, and G Jordan Hulls yet. These men are routinely playing just around 25 minutes per night and then hitting the bench for some of the secondary players, but that is going to change in the Big Ten portion of the slate. This should be nothing more than another beat down against a team that doesn’t deserve to be on the same court with IU.
We love what the Hoosiers are bringing to the table in this one. They really haven’t taken any prisoners over the course of the start of the season, and there’s no reason to think that any of that should start right now either. Go with the Hoosiers and lay anywhere up to about 35 points or so against the Owls on Friday night. Indiana 92 – Florida Atlantic 57
