Game Overview
NFC East foes are going to end their respective seasons against one another on Sunday in Week 17 NFL betting action, as the Philadelphia Eagles pay a visit to the New York Giants.
It has been a brutally bad year for the Eagles, who never dreamt up the fact that they would lose 11 games. This is clearly the swan song for Head Coach Andy Reid, who is going to be on his way out the door with almost no doubt after this one is said and done with. QB Michael Vick figured to be let go at the end of the year as well, but before he is finished, he gets one more chance to strut his stuff against the G-Men. Vick is only in the lineup because QB Nick Foles suffered a concussion last week and won’t be able to play in this one. Before getting injured and subsequently benched, Vick threw for 2,165 yards and 11 TDs against nine picks, and he rushed for 307 yards and a TD to boot. None of the stats for this team are really all that appealing this year, as the team ranks 27th in the league in scoring (18.2 PPG) and 26th in points allowed (26.8 PPGA).
The Giants were once a 6-2 team that seemed to be a lock to get into the playoffs, but now, they have lost five out of seven to drop to 8-7, and they need a de facto miracle to get into the second season. Not only does the team have to win, but the Minnesota Vikings, Chicago Bears, and Dallas Cowboys all have to lose to get in. The offense has been outstanding for this team this year, averaging 25.8 points per game, but thanks to how bad the defense has been, the team hasn’t won a game this year in which it has scored fewer than 26 points. This ‘D’ has allowed at least 27 points in three straight games, and that just isn’t going to cut it when push comes to shove when you’re trying to get into the playoffs. New York ranks 30th in the NFL in total defense at 387.8 yards per game allowed.
Prediction
The Eagles would love nothing more than to end the season of the Giants, and we think that they just might do it. Philly isn’t as bad of a team as its record suggests, and it can come on the road and win this one last game before the team is blown to bits in the offseason. Philadelphia 28 – New York 24
