2013 Rookie of the Year Futures Odds
NFL Betting Trends- 2013 Rookie of the Year Futures Odds
Each season BetOnline posts futures odds for which players will be named offensive and defensive Rookie of the Year at the end of the NFL regular season. The following is a look at a few of the top contenders to win these awards this year.
Offensive Rookie of the Year
The player at the top of this list at +300 is Denver running back Montee Ball. He played his college football at Wisconsin and in four seasons accumulated 5,140 yards while averaging 5.6 yards a carry. The Broncos used the 26th pick of the second round to add Ball to the roster and he has already been penciled-in as the starter. He should get his fair share of carries right off the bat, but the fact that the Broncos rely so heavily on the pass drains a bit of value from these odds.
The second-favorite to win this award is another running back, Eddie Lacey at +650. As part of a national championship team in Alabama last season he rushed for 1,322 yards while averaging 6.5 yards a carry. He was drafted by Green Bay towards the end of the second round and given the fact that the Packers were ranked 20th in the NFL in rushing last season this should be a perfect fit. One drain on these odds is Green Bay also drafted running back Johnathan Franklin in the fourth round which could impact how many carries Lacey gets this season.
The odds for a few other contenders to win Rookie of the Year on offense include DeAndre Hopkins, Giovani Bernard and Tavon Austin at +800. Le’Veon Bell has been opened at +950 and Tyler Eifert is listed at +1000.
Defensive Rookie of the Year
The top pick on the defensive side of the ball is Arthur Brown at +600. The inside linebacker from Kansas State was selected late in the second round by Baltimore in an effort to plug a hole left by the retirement of future Hall of Famer Ray Lewis. These are mighty big shoes to fill, but Brown could benefit by all the media attention he will undoubtedly receive. This adds quite a bit of value to his odds as long as he can play up to expectations.
There are two players listed as +800 second favorites to win this award, but our pick from this duo would be another linebacker Jarvis Jones, who played his college ball for Georgia. He was selected by Pittsburgh with the 17th overall pick in the draft. The Steelers are another team with some holes to fill on this side of the ball so Jones will get a chance to shine from Day 1. He is more of a playmaker on the outside than Brown, so he has the opportunity garner quite a bit attention as well which goes a long way towards winning this award.
The other player opened at +800 is defensive end Ezekiel Ansah, who was drafted by Detroit in the first round. He is the third defensive lineman drafted by the Lions in first round in the past four years. Safety Matt Elam, who was drafted by Baltimore in the first round, has been opened at +1200 along with San Diego linebacker Manti Teo.
A few players listed at +1500 include Star Lotulelei, Sylvester Williams, John Jenkins and Dee Milliner.
