NCAA Basketball Pick – February 2nd
Arguably the two best teams in the entire country are going to meet up in a pivotal college basketball betting battle on Saturday night, as the Michigan Wolverines meet up with the Indiana Hoosiers.
Michigan might be the No. 1 team in the land, but it is the underdog team in this game, and for good reason. Until we see this club go on the road and win a big time game like this, we refuse to believe that this is the best team in the country. Remember that the only “elite” team that the Wolverines have beaten on the road thus far this year was the Minnesota Golden Gophers. There are still difficult games left to be played, and this is one of the many that will separate whether this club is a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament or a No. 2 or No. 3. What we do know is that this is a big time backcourt that has a slew of talent in it. G Trey Burke, G Tim Hardaway, Jr., and G Nik Stauskas are asked to play at least 30 minutes every single night, as is F Glenn Robinson III. The bench isn’t used all that much, as we saw in the win over the Northwestern Wildcats on Thursday. F Mitch McGary played 15 minutes, while F Caris LeVert was in the fold for nine, but the bench didn’t empty until the final two minutes of the game when the outcome was clearly no longer in doubt.
Indiana has a legitimate gripe at a No. 1 seed as well, but this is where we are going to see the rubber meet the road for it. The Hoosiers have Michigan, followed by road games at the Illinois Fighting Illini and the Ohio State Buckeyes. Going 2-1 in those games would be quite an accomplishment, and going 3-0 in them should make them the No. 1 team in the country. There is no team in the land that plays offense better than Head Coach Tom Crean’s bunch. The Hoosiers rank No. 1 in the land at 84.0 points per game, and as a team, the club shoots 50.0 percent from the floor and 42.3 percent from beyond the arc. Those three-point shooters are just out of this world, and it feels like triples rain in bunches when this team is hitting from the outside. The defense though, isn’t slacking either. IU ranks 48th in America, allowing just 60.4 points per game and is keeping teams down to just 37.4 percent shooting from the floor.
Prediction:
We think that Indiana is legitimately the best team in the nation this year, and it’s going to show on Saturday. This is the showcase game of the day, and it should be a good one. The Hoosiers won’t disappoint. They only have one loss this year at Assembly Hall, and this won’t be the second. Indiana 72 – Michigan 65
