College Basketball Conference Report – Big Ten
Every week here at Bang the Book leading up to March Madness we will take a look at the recent hard court action in some of the best conferences in the country. The focus will be on the teams, premiere players and how they are setting up as the best tournament in the world approaches.
This week we will take a look at the Big Ten conference. In 2013 the Big Ten has become one of the best conferences in all of college basketball.
The Indiana Hooisers led by big man Cody Zeller are the cream of the crop in the conference. The Hoosiers recently dismantled the Michigan Wolverines when they paid a visit to Bloomington. The Hoosiers were vastly superior and cemented their standings as one of the best teams in the country. The win secured the Hoosiers the No. 1 spot in the college basketball rankings.
The loss should not be held against Michigan who is a good team in their own right. Recently off an overtime win against their rival Ohio State Buckeyes, the Wolverines secured their top spot in the college basketball rankings as they are assured an invite to the March Madness tournament. Michigan will have plenty of company as an expected seven teams are expected to get an invite and it may even be more.
Indiana, Michigan, Ohio State, Michigan State, Minnesota and Wisconsin are virtual locks to get an invite to the Big Dance. That would assure that the Big ten conference would get at least six into March Madness but other teams like Iowa and even Purdue have a slim shot and as of now it looks like Illinois would be awarded with the seventh seed.
The invites alone will make the Big Ten a big threat when March Madness begins.
