Bang The Book Bracketology 2/7/13

March Madness is quickly approaching and teams are getting poised to make a run at the NCAA tournament. Bang the Book Bracketology will cover the run to the brackets as teams get ready to become one of the few that will be selected for the Big Dance and will have a chance to cut down the nets in April.

This is the time of year when the top-ranked teams are in cruise control. They know they will make the NCAA Tournament and they are getting healthy for a run in the conference tournament. The goals of teams like Florida, Kansas and Duke are to get a high seeding in the NCAA tournament, something they know they can achieve with a good showing in the conference tournament. With that in mind, the teams to watch this time of the college basketball season is the teams on the bubble or the teams on the outside looking in.

A perfect example happened this week in the sport as up and coming teams upset top-ranked college basketball giants.

One of the biggest upsets of the week happened when cellar dweller TCU beat Kansas. The Jayhawks are arguably the best team in college basketball and they still have a realistic chance of playing for the national title. TCU will have high hopes to get into the NIT. The Horned Frogs were looking for a staple victory to get noticed and they did it in a big way. That win will ultimately at the least get them on the radar of tournament committees.

The Arkansas Razorbacks were yet another team that needed a signature win and they responded in a big way by taking down the top-ranked Florida Gators. This is the time of year when mediocre teams are going all out to get that one win that could get the NCAA Tournament committee to take notice.
