Bang the Book College Hoops Risers and Fallers
The college basketball season is all about riding momentum for some teams. The hot team going into the NCAA Tournament is the one to watch and wager on as the madness begins this March. With that in mind here is a look at the hot and cold teams for this week as part of our weekly edition of College Hoops Risers and Fallers.
Biggest Riser: Miami Hurricanes
The Miami Hurricanes are not only the biggest riser of the week; they may be the biggest riser of the college basketball season. The Hurricanes started the season at the bottom of the polls and have slowly risen to become one of the elite teams in the sport. A win over the Seminoles may not seem so glamorous but it was a perfect letdown spot after destroying the Tar Heels. It is also nice to note that the Canes are a perfect 9-0 against the spread (ATS) this season.
Notable Riser: Gonzaga Bulldogs
Gonzaga is no longer considered a Cinderella in college basketball after Coach Mark Few put this team on the map years ago. An impressive road victory over St. Mary’s shows they will be there to stay. This could be Few’s best team to date, however they are just 6-6 ATS at home this season.
Biggest Faller: Syracuse Orange
The Syracuse Orange is one of the best teams in college basketball but a recent loss to the Connecticut Huskies, may have their fans concerned. Coach Jim Boeheim showed his frustration by blowing up at a press conference after the game. The loss may not be a big deal, but it may have revealed a weakness in the vaunted zone defense. The Orange is also average on the road against the number at just 4-3 ATS.
Notable Faller: Arizona Wildcats
The Pac-12 looks to get respect this year by getting some good teams in the tournament. One of those teams is the Arizona Wildcats, but a blowout loss on the road against Colorado is a wasted opportunity to prove they could go places in the Big Dance. To make matters worse the Wildcats are just 10-11 ATS overall and 5-6 ATS at home.
