NBA – February 22nd
For just the second time this season, the Golden State Warriors and the San Antonio Spurs are set to do battle when they meet in NBA betting action on Friday night at Oracle Arena.
The Spurs picked up a big time win on Thursday when they clocked the Los Angeles Clippers by a whopping 26 points. It was the fifth straight ‘W’ for the club, and it snapped a two-game ATS skid. Everything really came together out of the blocks. G Tony Parker scored 31 and logged seven assists, while F Danny Green, C Tiago Splitter, and G Manu Ginobili all scored in double digits. It was a game where F Tim Duncan didn’t have to do anything particularly special, and he was only on the court for 16 minutes as a result. Twelve men were on the court for at least 10 minutes, and all 13 played in the game. Meanwhile, the Spurs held the Clips to just 31.2 percent shooting from downtown and forced 20 turnovers. That’s the methodology that San Antonio has been using all year long to beat teams, and it has been awfully difficult to try to keep up with a team that is as deep and as talented as this one is.
Golden State really slid going into the All-Star Break, and it had some problems right out of it as well against the Utah Jazz. They had lost six games in a row, allowing an average of 117.5 points per game. The defense settled back in against the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday night though, allowing just 98 points in a 10-point victory at home, and the hope is that now that this team is back at Oracle Arena that it can come up with another big time win to send a statement to the rest of the West. It’s one thing to beat a team like Phoenix. It’s something totally different to beat someone like San Antonio. As always, look for the three-pointers to be flying off of the hands of the Golden State guards. G Stephen Curry, G Klay Thompson, and G Jarrett Jack are lighting things up from long range, and that’s why they are combining to average 51.0 points per game between them.
Prediction:
Normally speaking, the back to back would bother us for the Spurs, but in this instance, it isn’t a problem because the team really didn’t have to exert that much energy to put aside the Clippers last night. Roll with San Antonio for the second straight night to dismiss another Pacific Division squad en route to the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference playoffs. San Antonio 112 – Golden State 104
