NBA Betting: Basketball Stock Market Report for 2/25/13
Basketball teams go like the stock market. Sometimes they’re hot and you have to buy them, and sometimes they’re cold and you have to sell. Our NBA betting tips show the teams that you should hold and the teams you should ditch here at Bang the Book!
Miami Heat: We spoke about the Heat as one of the hottest teams in the NBA last week, and the good times haven’t stopped rolling yet for the boys from South Beach. The No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference is now basically assured, as Miami has picked up 11 wins in a row to stretch the lead in the East out to a whopping 5.5 games with just 28 to play. Long story short, the Heat can mail it in for the rest of the year. However, they’re just keeping their pedal to the metal and only just saw a seven-game ATS winning streak go by the boards in a 109-105 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers at home on Sunday.
Cleveland Cavaliers: Speaking of those tricky Cavs, they have put together four covers in a row all of a sudden and are really playing a lot better basketball than 18-38 suggests that they should be. The team has kept right there with the Heat and the San Antonio Spurs in this stretch, and it blew out the lowly Orlando Magic as well. Now, following a road trip to the Chicago Bulls, the next five are at home, where Cleveland covered five out of seven on its most recent home stand to start February. This is going to be a tricky team that few want to see on their schedule over the course of the rest of the season.
Indiana Pacers: Indiana is just crippling teams right now and isn’t asking any questions about it. The team just pummeled the Detroit Pistons by the aggregate score on 204-154 in two games. Over the course of the last four games, all of which were wins and covers for the Pacers, they have outscored teams by an average of 27.0 points per game. Their only losses in their last 11 have come in overtime, and aside from that, not only do they have nine wins and nine covers, but all of those wins have come by at least 10 points. You won’t find a hotter team in the NBA than this.
New York Knicks: One of the teams that Indiana killed was the Knicks, who were beaten down 125-91 in their trip to Bankers Life Fieldhouse back on the 20th. That was a small part of a four-game SU losing streak that has since gone by the boards, but it was also a piece of a losing streak from an ATS standpoint that now continues to grow to 0-6-1 ATS in seven games. Effectively, the Knicks have dropped out of the race for the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference, and they’re lucky to still be leading the Atlantic Division.
Orlando Magic: It’s not all Orlando’s fault. The team did gut itself at the trade deadline, moving four players and leaving itself with just seven to face the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday night. The “Tragic,” as they are being called in Orlando, did cover that game against the Grizz, but that is their only cover in their last five games. They’re being outscored by 18.0 points per game in that stretch, the worst mark in the NBA since that point, and now men like F Tobias Harris are considered the building blocks for a team that is going nowhere in a hurry over the course of the next probably two or three seasons.
Charlotte Bobcats: At least the Bobcats beat the Magic… That’s about all they can say for their work over the course of the last five games. Charlotte was predictably blown away by Indiana on the road, but it had to be considered disappointing to come home after the win at Orlando and lose by six to the Pistons, 30 to the Chicago Bulls, and then 14 to the Denver Nuggets. The team is now 2-7 ATS in its last nine games, and there is no doubt whatsoever that this is a team that you just want to stay away from right now, especially with a West Coast trip looming to end the month and start March.
