Bang the Book Bracketology 2/18/13

As February turns into March the college basketball landscape transforms into the NCAA Tournament. In the tournament, one of the most important things for a basketball team to do is get a good seed. The best seeding possible is of course the No.1 seed. With just a few weeks to go nothing is set in stone yet and as many as eleven teams are up for the top four spots in the tournament.

This week in bracketology we look at the teams that will most likely be crowned No. 1 seeds and several dark horses who could sneak in and steal the spot.

bracketologyIndiana Hoosiers: Despite the loss to Minnesota, it would seem like the Hoosier will get a No. 1 seed in the Midwestern region. This is important to this team as they would play their tourney games in Indianapolis.

Gonzaga Bulldogs: With the No. 1 team losing, the door is open for the Bulldogs to get the best ranking in college basketball. With a soft schedule and a high ranking the Zags are almost assured a top seed.

Duke Blue Devils: The Blue Devils could grab the No. 1 seed in the tournament but they have to be careful down the stretch. Losses to ACC bottom dwellers could easily take the seed away from Duke.

Michigan Wolverines: The Wolverines have a big game with the Michigan State Spartans and if they win that game they could be in line for a top spot come tournament time.

Here are a few other teams that could sneak in and steal a top seed.

Florida Gators: The loss to the Tennessee Volunteers hurt, but if they win out they could leap frog Michigan.

Other potential teams who are in line for a top seed include Louisville, Georgetown, Michigan State, Miami and Kansas.
