Bang the Book College Hoops Risers and Fallers 3/1/13

The college basketball season is now into the month of March and teams will be under serious scrutiny as they head toward the NCAA Tournament. With conference titles and seedings out there for the taking, this is the time of the year when one loss can destroy a season and a championship run.

Biggest Riser: Louisville Cardinals

The Louisville Cardinals were ranked No. 1 in the country at one point during the season. Now with just a small schedule left in college hoops they have an outside shot of regaining that top spot. Teams above the Cardinals are dropping like flies and Rick Pitino has his team ready to pounce. A big game on Saturday against Syracuse in the carrier dome could give them the big victory they need to get a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament.

Notable Riser: Gonzaga Bulldogs

The Gonzaga Bulldogs are flying under the radar, but after a big win against BYU and with just one game remaining against Portland, they are primed to be the best team in college basketball.

Biggest Faller: Michigan Wolverines

The Michigan Wolverines have a very talented back court and one of the best lineages in the game today. The one thing they are missing is consistency. With a big game against the Michigan State Spartans on deck, the Wolverines laid an egg and lost to the Penn State Nittany Lions. That is an unforgivable loss and that is what makes Michigan the biggest faller of the week in college basketball.

Notable Faller: Duke Blue Devils

The Duke Blue Devils have had to deal with injuries and turmoil all season long, but they have managed to stay at the top of the basketball rankings. However after a loss to mediocre Virginia and a big game against Miami on deck, that could change quickly.
