NCAA Basketball Pick – March 4th
There is only one more week of regular season college basketball betting action left, and that week kicks off for the Cincinnati Bearcats and the Louisville Cardinals on Monday night at KFC Yum! Arena.
Cincinnati was becoming an awfully bubblicious team thanks to losses in three straight and five out of six, but the win over the Connecticut Huskies on Saturday was probably the game that put it in the field of 68 once and for all. If we were the Bearcats though, we would want to make sure that we locked down one more win somewhere along the way just to be sure. The team still has failed to cover four in a row and six out of seven, and a lot of that is still thanks to a shoddy offense that has been all over the place of late. If you take out the 11 points that the Bearcats scored in their overtime loss to the aforementioned Huskies back on February 21st, they are averaging just 54.6 points per game in their last six outings, which obviously isn’t going to get the job done no matter how good of a defense you have. The Big East has just proven to be too rough, and as a result, Cincinnati only has an 8-8 record in conference play going into the last week of the regular season.
The Cardinals are still one of the eight or nine teams that are still legitimately vying for a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, and they did a lot to bolster their case on Saturday when they went on the road and beat the Syracuse Orange at the Carrier Dome. That game was vintage payback for the loss suffered here at the KFC Yum! Arena a few weeks ago. Since getting over the losing streak that stemmed from that January defeat to the Orange though, the Cards have been relatively unbeatable. Their one loss since January 28th came at the hands of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in South Bend in five overtimes, hardly a damning defeat. The team is 5-3 ATS in its last eight games, and it has held teams down to just 54.2 points per game in the last five outings.
Prediction:
Head Coach Rick Pitino knows that his team isn’t going to be able to take its foot off of the gas pedal down the stretch if it wants to go on to be a No. 1 seed. The Bearcats just don’t have the offense to come into the ‘Ville and post a victory, and the Cardinals seniors are going to go out with a bang on Monday night at home. Louisville 68 – Cincinnati 57
