This is the best time of year for any college basketball fan or the sports betting fanatics. The college basketball conference tournaments are about to start and that means non-stop basketball action for the next few weeks with conference titles and automatic tournament bids on the line. The sharp sports bettor will tune into these tournaments so they will be better prepared to handicap the big dance.

One of the earliest tournaments to kick off the frenzy is the Horizon League tournament.

The favorites to win this tournament are Valparaiso who finished 13-3 in the Horizon and the No. 2 seed Detroit who finished 12-4. Valpo is new to the conference but once again they won the regular season title but will be challenged by the Titans who won this tournament a year ago.

Both teams will start the tournament with double-byes and a free pass into the semifinals.

No. 3 Wright State is the best of the rest in the league as they are the three seed and finished with a 10-6 record in conference. However they lost both meetings against Valpo and gained a split against Detroit in the season series, earning a 64-62 win at Detroit.

The No. 4 seed belongs to the Green Bay Phoenix who finished 10-6 in the conference and had a similar fate during the regular season. They were also swept by Valpo and earned a split against Detroit. However if one of these teams is going to advance and pull off an upset it is inevitable that they will face off against one of the top seeds in this tournament.

This is just one of the many conference tournaments that will take place over the next few days. The more that a college basketball handicapper watches these games, the better prepared they will be for the big dance.
