Bang the Book College Basketball Risers and Fallers 3/8/13
March is in full swing and the last few weeks of college basketball have been sprinkled with upsets and teams trying to get that one big win that could seal an invite to the NCAA tournament. With that in mind this week’s edition of risers and fallers feature teams that are trying to get on a path to the tournament.
Biggest Riser: VCU Rams
The Virginia Commonwealth Rams have seen this script play out before. They head into the Atlantic Ten conference tournament on a roll. The Rams have won eight of nine games to include a monster win over No. 20 ranked Butler. Coach Shaka Smart is one of the best coaches in tournament play and is getting his team ready to make a run. This is what makes the Rams our top riser of the week.
Notable Riser: Kansas State Wildcats
The Kansas State Wildcats are flying under the radar with all of the attention going to that other basketball team in Kansas. However they have won six in a row and ten of the last eleven games played.
Biggest Faller: Miami Hurricanes
The Miami Hurricanes were once the darlings of the college basketball world. Rising from a No. 25 ranking to the top five in the basketball rankings Miami seemed like a lock to win the ACC and get a No. 1 seed in the tournament. Now with three losses in the last four games, the Canes are struggling to clinch anything and have lost their chance at getting a No. 2 seed in the tournament. A win to end the season against Clemson could get them headed in the right direction.
Notable Faller: Georgetown Hoyas
The Georgetown Hoyas walked into the game with the Villanova Wildcats as viable options to grab a top seed in the big dance. After an embarrassing loss to an inconsistent Wildcats team they become a notable faller.
