College basketball is all about emotions in the month of March. The Madness has begun with the conference tournaments and that fervor and excitement will carry over to the NCAA Tournament. After the field is announced on Selection Sunday all of the teams in the field will have one goal to win a National Championship.
When the field of 68 is announced people will scan the brackets looking for that one underdog that will pull off the upset, so this week in bracketology we look at a few top teams that will be in the tournament that are very vulnerable to the upset.
The Miami Hurricanes are one of the favorites in the ACC and will have a high seed in the NCAA tournament. Despite the seeding the Canes are vulnerable to the upset. The Hurricanes live on the perimeter and rarely crash the boards. Their defensive intensity is unmatched, but lack of rebounding could hurt the Canes against a big team.
The Irish are a deadly Big East opponent that has the skills to go deep in the tournament, but they are also vulnerable. The Irish are not good on forcing turnovers as they force just 16.1 percent of opponent possessions which is good enough to rank 329th in division one basketball. That could hurt this team come tourney time. This is the opposite of our next team on the list.
Duke will be a perennial favorite to cut down the nets, but Duke backers should have some concern. They are sloppy with the rock as they lose 9.6 Percent of possessions which ranks 203rd in the country. This is the kind of stat that will hurt at crucial times in the game.
These teams may not be upset during the March Madness, but they have vulnerabilities that can be exploited by aspiring underdogs.
