College Basketball Risers and Fallers 3/15/13
The conference tournaments for each college basketball conference can make or break many of the teams that are eager to hear their name on Selection Sunday. If they do hear their name they will be lucky enough to become one of the few picked to join the 2013 NCAA Tournament and have a chance of winning it all. This week’s risers and fallers take a look at the teams looking to take the next step and those who have had bubbles burst.
Biggest Riser: Notre Dame Fighting Irish
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish has two wins in the Big East tournament and although they have some of the ugliest uniforms in college basketball, they are playing great basketball. Now in the Big East tournament semifinals the Irish have a chance to play Louisville a team they have double revenge against. Because of this, the Irish are the biggest risers of the week and will very easily get called on Selection Sunday and could easily be the next Big East champions.
Notable Riser: Boston College
Boston College won the first game in the ACC Tournament opener and is a notable riser. Freshman Olivier Hanlan set a tourney record by putting up 41 points and a win against the Miami Hurricanes would make people take notice of the Eagles.
Biggest Faller: Minnesota Golden Gophers
The Minnesota Golden Gophers opened the Big Ten conference tournament with a game against the Illinois Fighting Illini. The game was tied with just 15 seconds left before the Gophers watched Brandon Paul hit the game winner for Illinois. Now Minnesota will have to hope and pray that they get called on Selection Sunday. This makes Minnesota the biggest faller for the week.
Notable Faller: Richmond Spiders
Richmond lost to Charlotte in one of the most excruciating games of early tournament action. The 49ers astonished the Spiders by the final score of 68-63 on Thursday when the Spiders were called for three technical fouls in the last five seconds. The Spiders needed a deep run to get some excitement for the tournament, but this had to easily be the most painful loss of the week.
