NBA Betting: Basketball Stock Market Report for 3/18/13
Basketball teams go like the stock market. Sometimes they’re hot and you have to buy them, and sometimes they’re cold and you have to sell. Our NBA betting tips show the teams that you should hold and the teams you should ditch here at Bang the Book!
Miami Heat: Gee, what else is new? You have to go back eight weeks to find the last time the Heat lost a game, so why not call them the hottest team in the league? The streak was at least threaten by the Toronto Raptors on Sunday, only to see Miami roll off a 32-18 fourth quarter with ease to put win No. 22 in a row in the books. It’s the third longest winning streak in NBA history, and it doesn’t seem like it is ever going to end. The Celtics are the next to take a stab at Miami, and this is the last team that the Heat have lost to that they didn’t avenge the ‘L’. For good measure, the Heat are now winners of four out of five from an ATS standpoint, and they have gone 14-8 ATS on this winning streak.
Denver Nuggets: It’s not like the Nuggets aren’t virtually every bit as hot as Miami is. Denver has won 11 games in a row, and it is 10-0-1 ATS in those games. The Nuggets aren’t nearly as flashy as the Heat are, and the fact that their games aren’t largely over until midnight or later on the East Coast isn’t helping matters any. However, when you look at this winning streak, you see a team that is outscoring its foes by a margin of 109.3-97. Even the Denver defense is chipping in, as it has held five straight foes to 94 points or fewer. This might be the scariest team in the West right now.
Los Angeles Lakers: It’s not that the Lakers have covered four out of five that has us so enthralled. It’s not even that they are back in the playoff picture as the eighth ranked team and are just two games back of getting all the way up to No. 6. Heck, it’s not even really about the fact that these last two wins have come with G Kobe Bryant out of the fold. C Dwight Howard is playing scary good basketball right now, and the rest of the West has to take notice. He has carried the team to wins against Orlando and Indiana, and he now has seven straight double-doubles. In those games, Howard has averaged 20.1 points, 15.7 rebounds, and 3.7 blocks per game. Now THIS is why the Lakers are really, truly frightening.
New York Knicks: No team has had a worse four game stretch than these Knicks have had. They have been beaten in all four games and covered in all four games. They have only averaged 81.1 points per game and haven’t scored more than 94 in any of the outings. They have allowed an average of 101.8 points per game and have conceded at least 105 in two of the four. They already were playing without F Amare Stoudemire, and now, they are making due without F Carmelo Anthony and C Tyson Chandler. Without a doubt, this has been the worst road trip that a team could have ever really asked for.
Charlotte Bobcats: Again, what else is really new with the Bobcats? They beat the snot out of the Celtics at home, and then proceeded to lose to them by 17 when they went to Boston just four days later. In case you’re keeping count at home, that’s now 7-47 SU and 15-39-1 ATS over the course of the last 54 games. Is this season over yet? Heck, if you’re a Bobcats fan, you might be asking if the 2015 season is over yet…
Phoenix Suns: Honorable mention here has to go out to the Suns, who have tried to have an East Coast trip every bit as bad as the West Coast trip that New York has had. Over the course of the last four games, Phoenix has gone 0-4 SU and ATS, and it hasn’t had a game closer than 13 points. It has allowed at least 107 points in all of those games, and it has only put up more than 94 once (and that came in a game in which it allowed 127!). The final margin of defeat in these last four games has been 20.0. Bad teams continue to find ways to lose games by worse and worse margins as the season wears on.
