The 2014 NFL season starts in just a few short weeks. Although it is just preseason, it is still football and that means that football bettors will be ready to go to the betting window and place a wager on the team that they believe will cover the spread. With that in mind we wanted to post a few tidbits that will share some handicapping knowledge to all of the football bettors that are looking to get a jump start on the football season by betting on NFL preseason.
Jamaal Charles is one of the best players on the Chiefs but latest rumor is that he could hold out of training camp. Charles is currently signed through 2015, and he has a $5.2 million cap number in 2014. He is the 13th ranked running back in terms of average annual salary ($4.6 million). Other sources are reporting that Charles is going to show up to camp on time, so we’ll have to wait and see what actually happens here. Mainly, just keep an eye on this, if Charles is not in camp it could alter this team and their winning percentage in the preseason.
The Texans aim for a big rebound season in 2014. Andre Johnson is having a tough off season and has asked to be traded by the Houston Texans. He visited the team facility Monday, July 21. Johnson has visited the facility a few times this offseason. According to a league source, it does not mean Johnson will report to camp on time. This is another thing to keep an eye on as Johnson will need time to adjust to a new quarterback when he doe sdecide to play.
There seems to be a mini QB controversy in Cleveland. Cleveland Browns signal callers Johnny Manziel and Brian Hoyer will know who is starting before the third preseason game, according to head coach Mike Pettine, though it could happen sooner. Pettine has expressed hesitation to name Manziel the starter immediately and thinks Hoyer’s chances are underrated. This could make the Browns a team to watch in the preseason since they will have two players fighting for a spot.
Joe Flacco looks to be very comfortable in his new offense. Flacco said he’s become more comfortable in offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak’s offense. Kubiak knows how to craft a quality offense. He’ll make Flacco comfortable with play-action passing and multiple options on each play. This could make the Ravens a team to watch in the preseason and it could alter the way they play offense. The end result could be a higher scoring Ravens team this season.
