AFC Top Three Matchups-Week 4 Handicapping Report
The only team left in the AFC with an unblemished record after the first three weeks of the new NFL regular season is the Houston Texans. Week 4 features a couple of crucial divisional showdowns that could set the pace for the title races. The following is a handicapping report for the top three matchups in the AFC this week with lines provided by BetDSI.
New England Patriots (-3.5) vs. Buffalo Bills Total Line: 51
New England has almost lost as many games as it did all last season with a 1-2 start both straight-up and against the spread. The total has stayed UNDER in two of its first three games. The problems have been widespread with an offense that could not find the end zone in a loss to the Cardinals and a defense that could hold the line in this past Sunday night’s loss to Baltimore.
Buffalo got waxed by the Jets on opening day, but looked much more respectable in back-to-back victories over Kansas City and Cleveland to move to 2-1 both SU and ATS. The total stayed UNDER against the Browns but went OVER in its first two games.
The Patriots are 7-1 SU and 6-1-1 ATS in their last eight trips to Buffalo and 7-3-1 ATS in the last 11 meetings overall. The total has gone OVER in four of the last six meetings but has stayed UNDER in 10 of the last 14 games in Buffalo.
Tennessee Titans vs. Houston Texans (-12) Total Line: 44.5
Tennessee’s dramatic 44-41 victory against Detroit in overtime as a four-point home underdog raised its record to 1-2 both SU and ATS. The total has gone OVER in its last two games after staying UNDER in a 34-13 loss to the Patriots on opening day as a five-point home underdog.
Houston has presented itself as the most complete team in the AFC after rolling through its first three games by a combined score of 88-42. It is clicking on all cylinders on offense with quarterback Matt Schaub and wide receiver Andre Johnson healthy and back in the lineup. The total has stayed UNDER in two of its first three games.
The Titans are 10-4 SU in the last 14 meetings but just 2-5 ATS in the last seven. The total has nine of the last 12 games between the two. The Texans are 2-5 ATS in their last seven home games against Tennessee and the total has gone OVER in six of the last nine meetings in Houston.
Oakland Raiders vs. Denver Broncos (-7) Total Line: 46
Oakland’s late-game heroics in its 34-31 victory over Pittsburgh this past Sunday as a four-point underdog at home avoided a dreaded 0-3 start which is almost like the kiss of death to making the playoffs. The Raiders are now 1-2 both SU and ATS with the total going OVER in two of their three games.
Denver came-up just short in the fourth quarter for the second week in-a-row dropped it to 1-2 SU and ATS. The total has gone OVER in two of the three games. Peyton Manning continues to put up some big numbers each week but needs to convert all this production into wins.
The Raiders have won four of the last five games SU against Denver overall and are also 4-1 SU in their last five road games against Denver. The total has gone over in four of those five games on the road.
