Spread: Air Force -3.5
One of the earliest kickoffs for week ten of the college football season belongs to the all military game between the Air Force Falcons and the Army Black Knights. Although it is not Army vs Navy, it is always an intense game when two military academies meet on the football field and this game should be no different.
Army enters this football game under a cloud of controversy as the football program was just busted for using illegal methods to recruit players. It is reported that the Army football team was using alcohol, dinner dates with cheerleaders and female athletes and cash from boosters to lure high school football recruits to the program. The report claimed the Academy in West Point, N.Y., disciplined 20 cadets for promoting underage drinking and other improper benefits, while the coaches involved were also punished. Two police officers, who provided a police escort on a party bus full of cheerleaders, were also reprimanded following an internal investigation. One of the players involved included Army starting quarterback Angel Santiago. Army has an idle week to deal with this mess and prepare for the game against Air Force.
Although Army has just two wins on the season this is a very big game for Air Force because the Commander in Chief trophy is on the line. The Falcons have won this trophy more than any other service academy, but haven’t won one since 2011, so it’s on the forefront for this senior class who want to break the skid and bring the trophy back to the Air Force.
The latest college football betting trends for this game shows some negative sports betting trends for both teams heading into this game. The Falcons are 6-17 against the spread (ATS) in their last 23 games after accumulating less than 170 yards passing in their previous game, 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games after allowing more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game and 0-6 ATS in their last 6 road games. The Black Knights are 2-10 ATS in their last 12 home games when playing against a team with a winning road record, 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games following a loss of more than 20 points and 8-20 ATS in their last 28 games after accumulating less than 170 yards passing in their previous game. The Falcons are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 meetings.
This game will get little attention leading up to kickoff and even less fanfare after the game is complete, but rest assured, for these teams it is the biggest game of the season.
