Maybe the Angels have started to turn this ship around. The team has won three straight games after starting off at 11-22 to start the campaign, and perhaps Manager Mike Scioscia finally has some things going. Not surprisingly, as the offense has started to pick up, OF Josh Hamilton has started to hit the ball a little more. He has four extra base hits in his last four games, and he finally has his batting average comfortably over the Mendoza Line. On Sunday, LHP CJ Wilson will get the baseball. When you look at the raw numbers for Wilson in his last start against the Houston Astros, you would have to be impressed. He allowed two earned runs and struck out a dozen in 6.1 innings of work. Of course, it was five unearned runs that turned out to be his demise. That snapped a string of four straight starts for Wilson that the Angels won, and in a season that has been so frustrating, that’s definitely saying something.
The White Sox are struggling at the moment, and they are threatening to get swept in this series. They’re already in the gutter in the AL West, and they are the only team in the division that will end this week below .500. Play at US Cellular Field has been a real problem, but the bottom line for this team is that it has to hit the ball better. Batting .227 as a team isn’t going to cut it by any stretch of the imagination. The good news for the Pale Hose is that LHP Chris Sale is going to be on the bump in this one. Sale has led the team to five wins in his seven starts on the campaign. Sale has led the team to three straight wins, and in those starts, he has only allowed a total of 16 hits and five runs in 21.1 innings of work. There is no doubt that this is one of the top southpaws in the game, and if you take out the eight runs that he allowed against the Cleveland Indians on April 13th we would be talking about a man who has a sub-2.00 ERA with Cy Young credentials.
Though we love what Sale is bringing to the table, we think that the Angels are underrated at this point. LA is going to get this together at some point this year, and this is the series that really might be turning it all around. Go with the Halos to win this one as underdogs on Sunday night.
