SBG Global Opening Line: Diamondbacks – 121, Total 9 Flat
Two division leaders open up a three game set on Tuesday as the Florida Marlins host the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Diamondbacks lead the National League West while the Marlins lead the National League East. The Diamondbacks are playing well of late while the Marlins have slumped. That could change though as Arizona plays 26 of their next 38 games on the road. “You’re going to play 81 at home, you’re going to play 81 on the road,” Diamondbacks manager Bob Melvin said. “We’ve played a few more at home, and now it looks like most of June we’re on the road, but this is a team that’s not afraid to play on the road. It’s the way the schedule plays out.” SBG Global reports that early MLB betting has the public taking Diamondbacks on the Road.
The Marlins lost to Kansas City 9-3 on Sunday and have dropped five of six following a season-high six-game winning streak. “It’s definitely nice to know we’re still in first place,” said second baseman Dan Uggla, “We can pull out of this, trust me.” The Marlins have been in first place or held at least partial ownership of first place for 34 days. The last time the Marlins held a share of first place this late in the season was in 2004.
Mark Hendrickson gets the start for Florida. He has a 5-2 record with a 3.91 ERA. He gave up four runs, eight hits and had five walks in five innings of a 5-3 loss to Cincinnati last Tuesday. “The last two games, I’ve had trouble finding my rhythm,” said Hendrickson, “The hits you can’t control, but the walks made it hard on myself. A lot of my problems were self-induced.” Hendrickson is 3-1 with a 3.70 ERA in four career starts versus the Diamondbacks. Last season in three games (one start) he threw 8 1/3 scoreless innings against Arizona. The Marlins could also use some help from Hanley Ramirez. He is 1-for-7 with a walk and five strikeouts since signing his six-year, $70 million deal.
