Point Spread: Arizona State -12.5
The Pac-12 North has been the dominating side of the conference this year. Will all of that continue when the Washington State Cougars take on the Arizona State Sun Devils in Pullman? We’ve got all of the answers for this Thursday night fight in the Apple State in college football betting action.
The Sun Devils have flirted with the Top 25 for the mass majority of the season. They broke into it when they beat the Wisconsin Badgers, but they fell right out when they lost to the Stanford Cardinal. They got back in when they beat the USC Trojans, but they fell out the next week against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. They’ve got two wins in a row again, and they are back on the verge of being in the rankings. This though, could be a bit of a trap game. The Sun Devils do a lot well, though. They rank 14th in the land in total offense at 509.1 yards per game, and they are sixth in the country averaging 45.4 points per game. On the other side of the ball, they allowing just 349.3 yards per game. Here’s what’s really important, though. ASU is the only team in the Pac-12 South with just one loss. Unfortunately, there are still games against a lot of good teams, and losing one like this might prove to be damning in the chase in the division.
Head Coach Mike Leach has brought a real promise to Pullman, as he has the fans at Martin Stadium really believing that the team can get to a bowl game this year. The Cougars have to split their last four games to get the job done. None are games in which they are likely to be favored. None are games though, in which they would be a massive underdog. Wazzu has managed to survive games against the USC Trojans and the Cal Golden Bears already in conference play, and that 31-24 loss on the road to start the year against the Auburn Tigers is looking better and better with each passing week. QB Connor Halliday is going to continue to throw the ball all over the place, and he is leading the nation’s sixth best passing attack at 373.1 yards per game. Not surprisingly, Leach’s offense doesn’t care one lick about running the football, and that’s why the team ranks just 125th in the land in rushing offense at 58.4 yards per game.
We’ve seen some vulnerable moments for the Arizona State defense this year, and there is no doubt that this is one of these games that could be a trap. The Cougars have had two weeks to prepare just for this game, whereas the Sun Devils have been prepping for the rest of the season as well. Wazzu has a good enough club, and we think that it could be in line for the upset.
Arizona State Sun Devils vs. Washington State Cougars Pick: Washington State Cougars +12.5
