Ball State Cardinals
(3-7, 3-7 ATS)
(2-7, 2-7 ATS)
Two teams in the MAC that are just building towards next season are going to do battle in the Empire State on Friday night, as the Ball State Cardinals duke it out with the Buffalo Bulls.
Ball State has really had an atrocious year on both sides of the ball, and that’s indicative in its 3-7 record and 2-4 mark in MAC play this year. The Cards have become a defensive atrocity in this conference, allowing an average of 36.0 points per game in their last five, all of which came against MAC foes. A four game losing streak SU that only featured one cover was snapped last week in an overtime escape from the Akron Zips, a 37-30 win. However, only beating the Zips, the only winless team in America, by a TD in overtime is awful news for a school that also gave the Eastern Michigan Eagles their first and only win of the season. QB Keith Wenning has to do a better job of taking care of the football to help both his offense and his defense. Wenning has completed 52% or less of his passes in each of his last three games, and he has tossed a total of nine picks in that time. The frosh also has a game this year in which he went just 1-for-8 for 15 yards and two INTs before getting lifted in place of QB Kelly Page.
The only good news for the Ball State defense in this NCAA football betting affair is that the Bulls have an offense that really might be even worse. UB has scored just 26 total points in its last three games and had a very long stretch in which it went without an offensive touchdown. The unit ranks dead last in the MAC in scoring at 15.1 points per game, and really doesn’t have any options to toss the pigskin around. Things really didn’t get any better last week for QB Alex Zordich, who went just 8-for-26 for 84 yards with a TD and two INTs, but the really sad part about that was that it was considered a decent game by the standards of Bulls’ quarterbacks this year. So far in just ten games, UB QBs have thrown 18 INTs. For a team that doesn’t have a rusher that has even reached the 300 yard mark this season, the news is just getting worse and worse and worse. The defense has had its moments this year, ranking No. 40 in the country at 342.7 yards per game, but the lack of offense is really destroying any chances this unit really has of succeeding.
This is one of the hardest games of the week to make a call on because both teams are just so awful. However, if Ball State can figure out how to lose to Eastern Michigan and have to backdoor into a win against Akron, we have no doubt that the Bulls can figure out how to pull this one off.
