The Los Angeles Angels return home after yet another disappointing road trip. The Angels had a brutal April for the second year in a row. There’s no doubt that the Angels are a talented team, but can they dig themselves out of this big hole? Baltimore is playing pretty good baseball this year, as they look to keep the momentum going from their surprising season in 2012. Let’s take a look at this matchup.

Game Overview:

Baltimore’s offense has been tremendous so far this year, and the lineup has gotten a huge boost from the breakout of Chris Davis. Davis was a highly touted prospect who never panned out in Texas, but is putting up huge numbers now. Davis is hitting .337 with 9 home runs and 28 RBI’s. Adam Jones, Nate McLouth, and Manny Machado are all also hitting above .300 this year. Machado has been absolutely on fire over the past five games. Matt Wieters and J.J. Hardy have struggled all season. Still, the Orioles are averaging 5.04 runs per game.

Baltimore’s bullpen is one of the best in baseball. Jim Johnson and Darren O’Day both come into this game with an ERA under 1. If the Orioles are winning late in the game, there is a very good chance they’ll finish the game off. Chris Tillman starts for Baltimore in this one and he has been very inconsistent in his career. In 2013, Tillman is 1-1 with a 4.72 ERA. He’ll have to quiet a good Angels lineup in this one.

The Los Angeles Angels come into this game with a very disappointing 10-17 record. This is a team that was one of the favorites to win the World Series this year, and they are struggling out of the gates once again. The pitching staff has really let this team down so far this season. Los Angeles ranks 29th in baseball with a team ERA of 4.87. C.J. Wilson leads the team with a 4.04 ERA. If your best starting pitcher has a 4.04 ERA, you are really in trouble pitching wise. The bullpen hasn’t been any better either. Joe Blanton is 0-4 with a 7.09 ERA so far this season.

The Angels offense has started to get going a bit in the last few days. Los Angeles scored 19 runs in their three-game series against Oakland that ended in a 5-4 win on Wednesday afternoon. Mark Trumbo has hit a home run in three straight games. Mike Trout has had two big games in a row, and he might be coming out of his early season slump. Josh Hamilton’s poor average has gotten a lot of attention so far this year, but I do believe he’ll end up having a good season for the Halos. This offense is going to score a lot of runs this year.

Free Pick: Angels ML

Chris Tillman has been very inconsistent, and while I like the Orioles offense they aren’t as good as the Angels lineup. Look for the Angels to win this one.
