Thursday night’s NBA betting action on TNT wraps up in the desert, where one team fighting for a division title, the Los Angeles Clippers are taking on a team that is just fighting for its playoff life, the Phoenix Suns.
The Clippers have a chance to tie the Los Angeles Lakers atop the Pacific Division on Thursday night with a win. With just four games left to be played, these two Staples Center tenants are as close as could be, and they are both scrapping and clawing to try to make sure that they are the division winners this year. The Clips are now in the playoffs for the first time in seemingly eons, and they can wrap up home court advantage in the first round of the postseason with a combination of two wins or Memphis Grizzlies losses. That’s a big deal for sure for a team that has had to watch the Lakers play a ton of playoff games on its own home court over the course of the last decade. LA is hot at the moment, winning five games in a row and going 4-1 ATS in that stretch. It is a team that has overcome a lot, including the adversity that its coach, Vinny Del Negro, was rumored to be on his way out. The team has come together since that point and strung together a number of victories to put it back on the map and to save Del Negro.
Phoenix’s position is far more interesting. The Suns have four games left, three of which are going to be played here at the US Airways Center, though all four of these games are going to come against teams that either will be in the playoffs, or are fighting with them for a playoff spot. Right now, the Suns are a half game back of the Utah Jazz for that last slot in the postseason, though the Houston Rockets, Denver Nuggets, and Dallas Mavericks are all still fighting for those last three playoff positions as well. Grant Hill sat out of the loss on Wednesday night to the Oklahoma City Thunder with a mild knee injury, but he is expected to be back in the fold for this one. Of course, if the Suns are going to win this game, they are going to need a lot out of their stars. It has been nice to see Jared Dudley and Shannon Brown step up and put up decent games, but in the end, this game comes down to Marcin Gortat and Steve Nash, both of which probably need double-doubles for Phoenix to get back on the right side of the playoff bubble.
The Final Word: We think that this is going to be a great game that really could go either way. In the end, the Clippers have the better team though, and they are just playing too well right now to be stopped in our eyes. Take the two points on the road.
Los Angeles Clippers @ Phoenix Suns Pick: Los Angeles Clippers +2
