The Memphis Grizzlies will be back in their comfy home of the FedEx Forum on Tuesday night for NBA betting action against the Philadelphia 76ers.
We have to give the 76ers a heck of a lot of credit. There has been a lot of talk about how strong the Boston Celtics have looked at times this year and now how the New York Knicks are winning with Jeremy Lin calling the shots at the point guard position. However, through it all, the one thing that hasn’t changed is the fact that they are in first place in the Atlantic Division by a relatively comfortable margin. This is a team that truly has played well this year through 32 games, and it is showing. The problem for Philly right now though, is that it isn’t in particularly great form at the moment. The team has failed to cover four in a row and six out of seven, and it is has lost five of those seven games SU. The team hasn’t scored 100 points in a game this month, and the defense, which has largely carried this team to some huge wins this season, has looked lackluster at times. Elton Brand really looks like the game has more or less passed him by at this point, while Andre Iguodala just hasn’t totally been able to take over games. He hasn’t had more than 15 points in a game in quite some time.
It has been an odd year for Memphis as well. In the offseason, many figured that the Grizzlies were going to be one of the dark horse teams in the league this year. Rudy Gay didn’t play during the playoff push a season ago, and with him back in the fold, this was a team that was really supposed to contend out West. Zach Randolph got hurt early on though, and all of a sudden, Memphis was the team that was forgotten about. Over the course of the last few weeks though, the Grizz have come to life, and their 97-93 loss to the Houston Rockets on Monday night was just their second defeat since February 6th. Now, they are right back on the verge of the playoffs in the West, and they are in a position where not all that long after the All-Star Break, Z-Bo should be back in the fold and they will be whole again. When that happens, watch out! Memphis could once again become a very dangerous team out West.
The Final Word: We think that Philly is playing over its head, while Memphis is just trying to figure out how to get back in the win column. The Grizzlies are playing the better ball right now, and though they are still a bit shorthanded, they’ll get the job done at home and send the Sixers to their fourth straight loss.
