A pair of Top 10 teams meet in what could essentially become one of the best games of the year in the Big XII, as the Baylor Bears take on the Iowa State Cyclones in an early season conference clash in Ames.

The Bears have yet to play a legitimate road game this year, which has to be a bit of a concern. The team though, is 12-1 to show for its work in its first 13 games, and there isn’t a bettor who would be shocked to see Baylor end up winning this one on the road SU. We aren’t that sure if this year’s team is as good as last season’s team or not, but F Cory Jefferson and C Isaiah Austin make up one heck of a frontcourt. Jefferson is a double-double machine, averaging 14.2 points and 8.3 rebounds per game, while Austin really helps out in the low block. G Kenny Chery and G Brady Heslip are both long range sharpshooters, and both are going to have their work cut out for them on th road in this one.

Iowa State is one of the last undefeated teams in America, and the argument could be made that, at least to this point in the season, it has the best team in the Big XII. Oh sure, the Cyclones might end up losing five or six games in conference play, and that might knock them from the ranks of those Top 10 teams, but for the time being, Head Coach Frank Hoiberg has a lot to be proud of. His team is averaging 87.0 points per game, and it has some big time wins, including a victory on the road against the BYU Cougars and one at home against the Iowa Hawkeyes. Four men are averaging over a dozen points per game, led by F Melvin Ejim at 17.7 points per game. All five of the top scorers on this team are shooting at least 34 percent from beyond the arc and at least 49.7 percent from the field, and that’s why this is one of the most efficient offensive teams in the country. Not only do the Cyclones go fast, but they make sure they take the right shots as well, and as long as that stays the case, they will have one of the toughest teams in America to try to knock off.

For as much as we think Baylor has a team which can slow this game down just a bit, we don’t think that it is ultimately going to happen. The Cyclones have a very underrated team in our eyes, but they will be underrated no longer when they blow out a Top 10 team on their home court on Tuesday night. Iowa State 84 – Baylor 71
