Baylor Bears vs. Oklahoma State Cowboys Gambling Odds from Bookmaker
NCAA Football Betting Favorite: Oklahoma State -13.5
The Big 12 has had plenty of negative publicity with conference realignment this year, but this terrific matchup should get some focus back on the gridiron. Robert Griffin III is a legitimate Heisman candidate, and the Oklahoma State Cowboys are a real threat to win the national title this year. If you like points, you should love this game. Expect this to be one of the most exciting games of the day on Saturday.
Art Briles has done a great job turning around this Baylor Bears football program. Robert Griffin III is arguably college football’s best player so far this year. The statistics certainly back up that argument. Griffin has 22 touchdown passes and just two interceptions. His completion percentage is a ridiculously high 78.1%. Griffin is certainly the best dual-threat quarterback in the nation. Terrance Ganaway gives the Bears a high quality running back. Kendall Wright is one of the best receivers in the nation. Wright already has 55 catches and nine touchdowns so far in 2011.
What about the Baylor defense? This unit is certainly holding them back from much bigger things. Baylor’s defense is 95th in the nation in total defense, and they are giving up 33 points per game. The fewest points they have given up so far this year against an FBS opponent is 26 points. Clearly, this defense is a liability for the team.
Oklahoma State jumped to number three in the BCS standings this past weekend. The Cowboys have their sights set on a BCS National Championship, but they can’t avoid any letdown games between now and the end of the season. Brandon Weeden is the perfect quarterback for Oklahoma State’s complicated offense. Weeden is a 28 year old senior quarterback that understands this system extremely well. Weeden has thrown for 2,436 yards already this year. Justin Blackmon gives Weeden an extraordinary target at the wide receiver position. Blackmon is a physically imposing receiver who has the ability to take it to the house every time he touches the ball. Joseph Randle and Jeremy Smith have combined to run for 19 touchdowns, and the Cowboys certainly have the ability to beat teams on the ground.
Oklahoma State’s defense is somewhat similar to the Baylor defense. This is a unit that gives up a ton of yards. The one thing this defense does better than Baylor is force turnovers and limit touchdowns. The Cowboys are 103rd in the nation in total defense, but the fact that they are opportunistic allows them to hold opponents to 27 points per game. Still, Oklahoma State’s defense needs to improve or they could cost their team a chance at a title.
Last year Oklahoma State beat Baylor 55-28 in Waco. The Bears have struggled on the road the past couple years, but they should be able to put up a ton of points against Oklahoma State’s poor defense. At the same time, Oklahoma State should move the ball at will against Baylor. It’s a huge number, but I think this one goes over.
