Chicago Bears vs. Green Bay Packers
Monday, Nov. 4, 8:30 p.m. (ET)
Pointspread: Green Bay -12
Total Line: 50
The Chicago Bears come into this huge NFC North showdown with a 4-3 straight-up record, but a costly 1-5-1 record against the spread. Heading into last week’s bye they fell to Washington 45-41 as one-point favorites on the road. The total went well OVER the 47.5-point closing line in that game and it has now gone OVER in six of the Bears first seven games.
Chicago’s offense is ranked second in the NFL in scoring with an average of 30.4 points a game, but it will have to face the Packers with Josh McCown under center after Jay Cutler went down with a groin injury against the Redskins. Look for a heavy dose of Matte Forte running the ball on Monday night after rushing for 533 yards in his first seven games. Chicago will also need a much better effort from a defense that is ranked 27th in the NFL in yards allowed (391.0) and 29th in points allowed (29.4) to keep this game closer than the current 12-point spread.
Green Bay is holding a one game lead over the Bears and a half-game lead over Detroit in the NFC North title race at 5-2 SU. It is also 5-2 ATS this season and the total has gone OVER in four of the seven games. Last Sunday the Packers rolled over Minnesota 44-31 as 7.5-point road favorites, taking the total way OVER the 47.5-point line. The total had stayed UNDER in their previous three outings.
Everyone expects Aaron Rodgers to put up big numbers passing the ball and he has not disappointed with an average of 297.4 yards a game, but the emergence of a running game that is averaging 141.4 yards has made Green Bay’s offense one of the best and most balanced in the league. The proof has been on the scoreboard with an average of 30.3 points a game, which is the third highest total in the NFL. The Packers’ defense has also stepped-up its game especially against the run. It is currently ranked 11th in the league in yards allowed (331.1).

The Bears will have a tall task keeping this game close with McCown at the helm, but laying 12 points in a division battle such as this is always a risky proposition. The top play in this showdown is on the total line. The total has stayed UNDER in 10 of the last 11 meetings and it will stay UNDER again on Monday night.
