The college basketball championship weekend would not be the same without a game at Madison Square Garden, in New York. This mecca of basketball always features a big game from the Big East and this year is no different. Although the conference has changed teams in recent years there is no shortage of talent and big named players this time around as the championship is decided on Saturday night in prime time.

Game Overview:

The Providence Friars and the Creighton Blue Jays will tip off to see who will win the championship in a game of two very different teams. When the No. 1 seeded Villanova Wildcats were bounced early it left the title shot wide open to a surprise team.

No. 14 Creighton, which obliterated Providence a week ago behind Doug McDermott’s career-high 45 points is the prohibitive favorite to cut down the nets in this tournament. McDermott moved into fifth place on the Division I all-time scoring list Friday. He needs 22 points Saturday to become the fifth player in Division I history to reach 3,100 points. The Blue Jays have more scoring punch than just one player. Ethan Wragge was 5-of-9 from 3-point range en route to 17 points against Xavier while Jahenns Manigat supplied 14 points on 4-of-5 3-point shooting one night earlier against DePaul. They are a threat to score from anywhere on the floor.

Providence is making an impressive run as a four seed, but will be highly over matched in this game.

The latest college basketball betting trends for this tournament championship reveal that both teams have some positive wagering angles coming into this game. The Friars are 7-2 against the spread (ATS) in their last 9 games when playing against a team with a winning percentage above .600, 6-2 ATS in their last 8 Saturday games and 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games overall. The Blue jays are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 neutral site games, 11-4 ATS in their last 15 games following a win against the spread and 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games when playing against a team with a winning percentage above .600.

Providence could be just happy to get here as the Friars’ 1994 Big East tournament title marks their only prior appearance in the championship game since joining the conference for its inaugural season in 1979-80. The Blue Jays are just too good and they will win this game and claim the Big East title.
