Moneyline: Red Wings -106
The 2013 NHL betting campaign continues on the final day of March, as bettors can sink their teeth into what should be a great clash in the Central Division between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena.
The Blackhawks have hit their roughest stretch of the entire season. They have been beaten in regulation in three of the last four games and five of the last nine after opening up the campaign with 24 games in a row with at least a point. The schedule has been a lot tougher than people give it credit for though, as these games against teams like the Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings isn’t easy. That being said, we still like the direction that this team is going in. G Corey Crawford is doing a solid job in net, and the defense is really standing up to the pressure that a lot of teams are trying to get in the attacking zone. The issue that we have is with the offense. Yes, this is still one of the best offenses in the entire league, but it seems as though missing LW Patrick Sharp and RW Marian Hossa for most of the month of March has finally caught up to the club. Chicago only has three goals scored in its last two games.
The Wings are missing a ton of players right now as well. RW Mikael Sameulsson has a fractured finger that he is just getting over, and he might be able to get back in the lineup for the first time in seven weeks. However, the news isn’t as good for RW Johan Franzen, C Darren Helm, and others who are going to be out of this one. It’s going to be good to see the Red Wings playing at Joe Louis Arena once again, as they have only played one home game since March 10th. The team just came back from a very successful Pacific Division swing in which it went 3-1. Yes, the most recent game was a relatively lackluster 2-0 loss at HP Pavilion against the San Jose Sharks, but that shouldn’t take away from what the team was able to accomplish for the rest of the trip.
We really like the way that Detroit is playing right now, and we know that the picking is as ripe to take down the Blackhawks as we have seen all year long. Look for G Jimmy Howard to come up with another good game in the pipes on Sunday in a big time spot, as he and the Red Wings take a crucial two points in their quest to get back into the playoffs this year.
