Two of the best teams in the Central Division will get together on Wednesday in NHL betting action when the Chicago Blackhawks play host to the St. Louis Blues on NBC Sports Network at 8:00 p.m. ET on the ice inside the United Center.
The Blues got another win on Monday night as they defeated the Winnipeg Jets 3-1 on their home ice. With the win the Blues ran their streak to three in a row and they have now won eight of their L/9 games overall. Things have only gotten better for St. Louis since it signed G Ryan Miller who has responded with a 1.63 GAA and a .932 save percentage in his first eight starts with the team putting up a 7-1 record in those games. This team is solid defensively no matter who it puts in net as back-up G Brian Elliott has a 2.07 GAA and a .916 save percentage on the year. The Blues rank third in the league as they give up just 2.2 goals per game. When pairing that defense with the league’s No. 2 offensive attack that scores 3.2 goals per game this team has been darn near unbeatable of late. St. Louis currently sits comfortably atop the Central Division standings with a 41-14-7 SU mark thus far. If this team can stay healthy there won’t be too many teams that can beat them come playoff time.
The Blackhawks have fallen into a bit of a funk of late as they have lost six of their L/10 games. Tuesday night saw them suffer through a heartbreaking overtime loss 3-2 to the Philadelphia Flyers on the road. A Philly goal with just four seconds remaining in the overtime period sent them reeling back to the windy city. Chicago got off to a fast start in that game as it jumped out to a 2-0 lead behind early goals from Andrew Shaw and Duncan Keith. However, it failed to get anything else going the entire game and things won’t get any easier on Wednesday as it has to face the league’s hottest team. The Blackhawks have the NHL’s No. 1 offensive unit scoring 3.3 goals per game. They will have to ask that group for more in this game as it figures to be pretty tough to score against this Blues team. Chicago has a sizeable lead for a playoff spot so that won’t be a problem, but it must start to win these games against other playoff teams for the sake of confidence.
The Blues are the hottest team in the league right now and it will take a huge effort from the Blackhawks to get the win in this game. St. Louis won the last match-up of these teams back on December 28th as it survived 6-5 in a shootout. We don’t see this being as high scoring, but we do see the Blues as the squad that will come out on top in this game with a great defensive effort on the road.
