This is one of those games for the Bruins in which they really have to prove that they are as good as the best teams in the league this year. Tim Thomas, who is coming off of one of the best seasons that a goaltender has ever had, is going to go against Henrik Lundqvist, who is now having arguably a better season this year than Thomas did a season ago. New York’s offense clearly isn’t as stellar as that of Boston, but at times, it doesn’t necessarily feel that way. Case in point, take Saturday’s game for the Bruins. They only scored two goals against a New York Islanders team that really is one of the worst teams in the game, and that came on the heels of getting shutout at home by the Ottawa Senators, a team that is known to struggle defensively at times. Boston also has to be really careful at this point, knowing that those Sens are closing the gap in the Northeast Division. All of a sudden, there are only a few points separating these two teams.
The Rangers are still running away from the rest of the field in the East, and a win in this one could leave them a dozen points up on the whole conference. New York was beaten by the Tampa Bay Lightning on Friday night in a frustrating game in which the team was outplayed from start to finish. Lundqvist was under constant pressure in that one, and now, the Swede needs a lot more help from the rest of his team to be able to beat the Bruins. That being said, it isn’t something that happens often, and that’s why Lundqvist has a whopping 30 wins on the season. The four goals that the Lightning scored on Friday night marked the first time since the middle of January in which he allowed four goals or more. That offense is still in question though, averaging just 2.7 goals per game and 28.0 shots per game, and if the ‘O’ plays like it did on Friday night, the team just doesn’t stand a chance.
Boston Bruins @ New York Rangers Pick: The Rangers are still playing well right now, and we have confidence that Lundqvist is going to get back on track. Boston didn’t look good against the Isles on Saturday, if it is going to struggle at home against one of the worst teams in the league, we can’t imagine what is going to happen at Madison Square Garden.
Free Hockey Pick: New York Rangers -150
