The Bruins had to face a lot of issues last season over the course of their run to the Stanley Cup, but this time around, they really don’t feel like a team that is going to get the job done. Boston is going to have to win on the road in this one after falling 4-3 at home against the Caps. Give the B’s credit for fighting back from a 2-0 deficit and a 3-2 deficit in the third, but when they fell behind for the third time over the course of the night, they just didn’t get the job done. This offense still feels a bit questionable at this point. Braden Holtby shouldn’t be shutting down this unit the way that the is, and in the end, it is going to be up to all of these players that just haven’t gotten on the scoreboard all that much in this series that are clearly to blame. Don’t blame Tim Thomas, who had a rough game in Game 5, but he has had a nice series in spite of that.
Alexander Semin, Nicklas Backstrom, and Troy Brouwer. Those are the three men that have scored the game-winning goals in this series. Note who isn’t really involved in all of this… Alexander Ovechkin! It’s amazing that the Caps have done so well in this series and are on the verge of making onto the second round without really getting much in the way of production out of Ovie. In the end though we know that we still have to give a lot of credit to Holtby, who is clearly going to be the man that Washington goes with here in the playoffs for the rest of the year unless anything different happens. Holtby stopped 34-of-37 shots in Game 5, and on the road against an offense that averaged 3.2 goals per game this year in a situation like this, it is clear that he did his job. Of course, if there is one thing to really question here, it is that he only has one goal and three assists in this series, and that just isn’t normal for a man that really should be taking over offensively.
Boston Bruins @ Washington Capitals Pick: The Bruins are going to be in a heck of a lot of trouble in this one, but what history says is that the Caps are going to blow it in situations like this. We really think that this series is going to go the distance.
