Pointspread: Denver -7
Total Line: 56
The Broncos have clearly established themselves as the cream of the crop in the NFL this season with a sterling 6-0 start both straight-up and against the spread. They are scoring an NFL-best 44.2 points a game and have outscored their opponents by a whopping 107 points. The total has gone OVER in all six games.
The big storyline for this matchup is the return of Peyton Manning to a place where he spent the first 14 seasons of his storied NFL career. He is off to his best start ever with 2,179 passing yards and 22 touchdown throws in his first six games. What really makes his numbers pop this season is a completion rate of 74.2 percent. Denver easily has the best receiving corps in the NFL with four different players already posting at least 31 catches on the year. The only chink in the armor is a defense that is allowing an average of 407.5 yards and 26.3 points a game.
Indianapolis has already knocked-off San Francisco and Seattle this season as an underdog, but it is coming off an ugly 19-9 loss to San Diego this past Monday night as a one-point underdog on the road. The Colts are now 4-2 SU (3-3 ATS) and the total has stayed UNDER in four of their first six games.
Andrew Luck, who was drafted first overall in the 2012 to replace Manning in Indianapolis, has been able to avoid the dreaded sophomore slump with a fairly solid performance so far. He has thrown for 1,346 yards and seven touchdowns, but more importantly he continues to make plays when his team needs them the most. The Colts also have a potent running game that is ranked eighth in the NFL with an average of 130.7 yards a game. The key in this matchup is how well their 11th-ranked defense holds up against Manning’s aerial assault.
Free NFL Pick
Nobody has been able to slow Denver’s offense down this season so the Colts only chance to win this game is to try and keep pace on the scoreboard. Indianapolis will still get its fair share of points, but not enough to cover with the touchdown spread.
