Two of the top teams in the Eastern Conference are going to be clashing on Tuesday night in NHL betting action, where the New York Rangers host the Boston Bruins at Madison Square Garden.
The B’s used G Tuukka Rask last night against the Carolina Hurricanes, which more or less insinuates that this is going to be a game where he will be sat down, especially with only one day off for the next game against the St. Louis Blues back at home. G Chad Johnson has only played in three games this year, and he has a 2.30 GAA to show for his work. Still, if Johnson is the man that is going to be in the pipes instead of Rask, it makes a huge difference, and it puts a lot of pressure on the offense to get some goals against one of the best net minders in the game. Johnson also has a lot of work to do on the penalty kill, something which Rask has been doing remarkably well with. Rask has shut down 32 consecutive penalties, the longest such streak in the league. Offensively, it’s going to take a big effort tonight from C David Krejci and LW Milan Lucic to win this one. These two have 12 goals and 20 assists between them this year. LW Loui Eriksson has tallied a point in six straight games, and he has 10 points in 15 duels this season.
The big story for the Rangers is that LW Rick Nash is expected to be back in the lineup in this one. The star winger has been out since October 8th with a concussion, and this would be his first home game of the season if he was to suit up. It’s important for the Madison Square Garden crowd to see their hero, and that would be a huge boost for the team, which isn’t scoring nearly as many goals as need be at the moment. Nash has logged at least 27 goals in every complete season in his career, and last season, he had 21 goals in 44 games for the Rangers, his first season in the Big Apple. G Henrik Lundqvist has only played once in the last seven days, and he is going to be back in net in this one after some extended time off. The Swedish goalie is only 6-8-0 on the season with a 2.41 GAA and a .919 save percentage, numbers which we know absolutely have to be better by the time the season is over with if this team has any hope of contending for the Stanley Cup.
If the Rangers get Nash back in this one, we expect that the MSG crowd is going to be able to carry them to victory. They’ll have enough offensive firepower to take advantage of either Rask playing his second game in as many nights or Johnson playing in just his fourth game of the season. We like New York on Tuesday.
