We are starting to get down to the nitty-gritty in the NHL betting campaign, and here at Bang the Book, we are going to take a look at two of the teams that are going to try to get into the Eastern Conference playoffs, the Buffalo Sabres and the Winnipeg Jets.

To say that the Sabres really need to get a move on is a bit of an understatement. They enter this one on Monday night two points in the rears of the playoffs in the East, and they have more games played than most of their contenders for those postseason positions. That being said, Buffalo is hot at the moment, as its win at the Vancouver Canucks as tremendous +185 underdogs marked the team’s third straight win. It also marked the eighth straight game in which the Sabres have picked up at least one point. This is the final game of a five-game roadie that has been great for the visitors, as they have picked up seven points in spite of the fact that three of the four games have come against potential division winners. What is amazing about the Sabres is that they have been getting the job done in spite of the fact that Jason Pominville has been nowhere to be found on the stat sheet of late. He hasn’t scored a goal since February 19th, and he hasn’t had a point since February 21st, yet he still leads the team in scoring with 59 points.
If the playoffs started right now, the Jets would be the last team to make it in. They are going to be challenging for the Southeast Division title as well for the rest of the year in all likelihood, and they sent out a warning to the Florida Panthers that they are for real when they beat the guests from the Sunshine State 7-0 a few nights ago. There is a long road trip ahead to Western Canada after this one, which makes this game against another playoff contender all the more important. Think that there wasn’t a difference for this team moving to Manitoba? The Jets have 20 wins already this year at home, and their 20-10-4 mark is one of the best in the entire league. Winnipeg is playing well as well, as it has gotten at least one point from seven of its last eight games, and that is why this team is right in the thick of things with just over a dozen games to play.
Buffalo Sabres @ Winnipeg Jets Pick: At home, we aren’t going to go against the Jets, especially at a price like this one. Winnipeg is finishing off a home stand and has had a lot of days to prep for this one. Buffalo is still dealing with a horrendous travel schedule and probably won’t be as up for this one as it was against some of these other big time teams that have been on tap.
Free Hockey Pick: Winnipeg Jets -125
