Arch rivals from the NL Central are going to meet on the MLB betting lines on Friday night for the first game of a three-game weekend set, as the St. Louis Cardinals take on the Cincinnati Reds.

The Cardinals are searching for their 40th win of the season, and they are going to be the first team to get to that benchmark this year. The squad already has 20 wins on the season on the road, and there is no doubt that this is the best team in baseball at the moment. On Friday night, RHP Adam Wainwright is going to be dealing. He is 8-3 on the season with a 2.33 ERA, and he has been one of the most effective pitchers in baseball this year. Wainwright is getting a heck of a lot of help from his offense, which is giving him 5.5 runs of support per game, and the bullpen isn’t costing him all that much either. That said, Wainwright has done everything that he has had to do in order to notch wins. He is averaging nearly seven and a half innings per start this year, and he has already finished three games in which he has started. In his last start, he allowed just one run in a complete game, and he struck out 10 in the victory over the San Francisco Giants.

Cincinnati is going to be glad to be back on the field after a day off, and the bullpen is going to be happy to not be facing the Colorado Rockies once again. The Rockies blasted five homers on Wednesday and put 12 runs on the board in the last game of that series. The Reds had pitched well over the course of the last week or so, posting three shutouts since the very end of May. The team is going to be relying upon RHP Mike Leake in this one, and Leake was one of those pitchers who helped put together a shutout his last time out there. Leake threw six scoreless innings on the road against the Pittsburgh Pirates in one of the biggest starts of the season. The righty has now allowed just one earned run in his last four starts, and the bullpen hasn’t allowed a run on him in any of those four starts. Leake’s ERA is down to 2.75, and he is up to 5-2 on the year.

The way that Leake is pitching right now, it is seemingly ridiculous that the Reds are underdogs in this game. The Cardinals are a great team, but they aren’t beating Leake more than half the time on the road against such a great home team.
