The Stanley Cup Playoffs will continue on Friday in NHL betting action when the Chicago Blackhawks take on the St. Louis Blues on Comcast at 8:00 p.m. ET on the ice inside the Scottrade Center. This will be the fifth of a seven game series between these two Western Conference foes that is tied at two games apiece.
The Blackhawks were able to fend off the Blues with a 4-3 overtime win in Game 4 that tied this series. Their big play guy Patrick Kane came up with the goal in overtime that allowed them to keep hopes alive that they can pull this mild upset in the first round. Chicago jumped out of the gates in the second period scoring two goals from Andrew Shaw and Kane. It would see that lead disappear and it would face a 3-2 deficit late in the final stanza before Bryan Bickell scored the goal that sent the game into overtime. Blackhawks G Corey Crawford saved the game on more than one occasion as he had some big saves mixed into a night where he stopped 30 shots from the Blues high powered offense. His play has helped to turn this series around as he shut out the Blues in Game 3 and did his part to tie the series on Wednesday night.
The Blues had every chance they could ever ask for to grab a 3-1 lead in this series on Wednesday night, but they were unable to get a goal that would have sealed the deal. As it stands they still have home ice advantage if there is a Game 7 and that is exactly what we expect to see out of this highly competitive series. After trailing 2-0 in the second period the Blues got things going with back-to-back goals from Vladimir Tarasenko and Maxim Lapierre in the final two minutes to tie the game headed to the third. Tarasenko scored his second goal of the night to give St. Louis a 3-2 lead with under eight minutes remaining, but it was unable to hang on. The Blues had a short flight back home to think about what they did wrong in Game 4 and that should really help their chances in a pivotal Game 5 in their house. Being at home means a lot to each of these teams in their meetings the home team is 39-18 in the L/57 contests.
That being said, the Blues are 5-0 in their L/5 home games against these Blackhawks and that is a streak they are determined to continue. On Friday night we expect to see St. Louis score just enough to get the job done and take a 3-2 series lead. Either way this game goes get yourselves prepared to watch some overtime hockey just in case as three of the first four have gone ‘over’ the total and into OT. The score has also been 4-3 either way in every game safe for Game 3 where the Blues were shutout. Chicago Blackhawks @ St. Louis Blues Pick: St. Louis Blues
