MLB Pick: Cincinnati Reds vs. San Francisco Giants
Tuesday, July 23, 7:05 p.m. (ET)
Television: MLB Extra Innings
Money Line: Cincinnati (+115) San Francisco (-125)
Total Line: 8.5
The Reds got the early jump on this four-game series with an 11-0 romp on Monday night as 114 road favorites. They will now have to play a double-header on Tuesday with this contest starting things off in an early start. Cincinnati is 4-1 in its last five games and at 56-43 on the year it is currently 4.5 games in back of St. Louis in the NL Central title race. The total has gone OVER in four of its previous five contests.
It is no big surprise that the Reds’ lineup was able to flex its muscles in Game 1 of this series as it has been productive all season long as the third-highest scoring team in the National League with an average of 4.40 runs per game. They are also ranked third in the NL in pitching with a team ERA of 3.38. Tony Cingrani is expected to get the start in the first game of this double-header. The left-hander is 3-1 on the year with a 3.23 ERA.
San Francisco is now 2-3 in its last five games and desperately searching for some much needed offense after only managing to score a total of eight runs during that stretch. It is a full six games behind Arizona in the NL West with an overall record of 45-53. The Giants have gone 27-22 at home this season.
Consistency at the plate has been a problem for this team all season long as it is ranked 11th in the NL in scoring with an average of 3.92 runs per game. The Giants’ pitching has also been an issue at times with a 4.12 staff ERA that is ranked 13th in the league. Look for Eric Surkamp to make his return to the starting rotation on Tuesday night. The left-hander has been recovering from Tommy John surgery for most of the season and he will be making his first start of the season.
Free MLB Pick
The Reds already rocked San Francisco for 11 runs in this series and are in position to do it again in the first game on Tuesday night with a rusty Surkamp on the mound. The free MLB pick for the early game is Cincinnati in another romp as the Giants’ bats continue to remain fairly quiet.
Cincinnati 6 San Francisco 3
