Basketball Betting –Clippers Seek Revenge Over Wounded Lakers in Battle For L.A.
It is a foregone conclusion that when it comes to securing the attention of NBA fans in Tinseltown, the Los Angeles Clippers have achieved the upper hand over the Los Angeles Lakers. Maybe that’s only fair, as the Lakers have ruled this town for many years. Basketball bettors at VietBet, however, will turn their attention anywhere there is value, so there may be some interest in this game between an Western Conference contender and an also-ran, which begins at 10:35 PM ET at the Staples Center. In this game, the Clippers will be the home team, so that means Jack Nicholson will have to scalp a ticket (no, just kidding).
The Clippers, who have won four of their last five games, are 25-13 straight-up on the season and are the leaders of the Pacific Division, sitting in fourth place in the West playoff queue, behind San Antonio, Portland and Oklahoma City and one game ahead of Golden State and Houston. Yes, things are tight, so every game counts. Doc Rivers’ team is 22-16 against the NBA pointspread.
The Lakers are 14-22 straight-up, which puts then six games out of the 8th and final playoff spot in the West, but they are 18-16-2 against the number, which is an indication that oddsmakers have already caught up to how bad they are.
In the basketball betting odds that are currently posted at VietBet on this game, the Clippers are double-digit favorites:
Los Angeles Clippers -10.5
Los Angeles Lakers +10.5
Over 209 points -110
Under 209 points -110
To be fair to the Lakers and coach Mike D’Antoni, they have fallen victim to a rash of injuries. And they actually weren’t all that awful until right before Christmas. Now they have lost nine of their last ten games, the last four of which have been by 13 points or more. In Wednesday’s 113-99 loss at Houston, they went onto the floor with a starting lineup of Wesley Johnson and Pau Gasol at the forwards, Kendall Marshall and Jodie Meeks at guard and Robert Sacre at center. Basketball bettors are well aware that a lineup like that won’t win often, and it was a good thing that Nick Young, the former USC star, was able to come off the bench and score 25 points, or this thing would have looked extremely ridiculous.
As it was, the Lakers actually took a five-point lead into the locker room at halftime, then were simply blitzed by Houston in third period, to the tune of a 33-15 deficit. There really is no depth on this team. And how could you possibly expect there to be, when they are missing so many people, particularly at the guard position. Kobe Bryant is out until after the All-Star break; that much is no surprise to VietBet customers. But there are also other absences, from players who would be considered key cogs. We don’t know when Steve Nash will see the court again. Steve Blake, his backup, is out with a torn ulnar collateral ligament; Jordan Farmar tore a hamstring. Xavier Henry, who has shown some scoring pop, has a knee bruise. This is a skeleton crew, to put it mildly.
And that crew had better be prepared for a revenge-minded Clipper squad (which is -750 to win outright in the NBA money line here). In the opening game of the season, the Lakers, as the home team (and a little healthier one at that) nailed 14 three-pointers and blasted the Clippers 116-103 as a 10-point underdog in the basketball betting odds. They turned the ball over 19 times, but also pulled down 18 offensive rebounds. It was a disappointing night for the Clippers, who had swept the Lakers in last year’s season series.
The Clippers are dealing with their own injury issues, as Chris Paul is out with a shoulder issue, and that absence should last at least six weeks. This is one of those situations where the Clippers will feel it at both ends of the floor, as Paul is a consistent All-Defensive team performer. Darren Collison is not a bad stop-gap, but there is certainly a challenge in terms of ball movement in the half-court. And it is hard to tell the full effect, since VietBet patrons have only seen a small sampling.
The good news is that J.J, Redick, who must be accounted for around the perimeter, will be returning after an injury. So there is a chance for the Clips to extend the Lakers’ ill-fortune as a home underdog, as that record stands at 1-8 against the basketball odds as of this date.
