College Basketball Betting: Florida Gators vs. Mississippi State Bulldogs Pick

Florida Gators
(16-4, 7-9 ATS)

Mississippi State Bulldogs
(10-9, 3-11-1 ATS)

The SEC East and West battle against each other on Saturday afternoon. The Mississippi State Bulldogs will play host to the Florida Gators in an NCAA basketball betting affair in Starkville.

The orange and blue are in the Top 25 once again, and there is really no doubt that this is the team that can challenge the Kentucky Wildcats the most in the SEC. The Gators scored a huge victory against the Georgia Bulldogs in Athens earlier this week, and they are going to be up against it to snare another win on the road. They already have a 6-1 mark this year outside of Gainesville, and that one loss was at the UCF Knights, not against a team that is going to challenge them for a bid in the NCAA Tournament. Head Coach Billy Donovan just doesn’t have that deep of a squad, though. There are five double digit type of point scorers on this team. That starting five is great, but there aren’t many great options off of the bench. Chandler Parsons is getting the job done in every facet of the game this year, and he is going to be the man to watch. He is averaging 10.4 points, 7.2 boards, and 3.6 assists per game, the latter two numbers on which are both tops on the squad.

The Bulldogs really worked their butts off in the non-conference season to be able to bring both Renardo Sidney and Dee Bost back for the SEC season, but things really haven’t played out the same way that Head Coach Rick Stansbury imagined. Bost has done well, averaging 17.2 points per game in his five games this year, but Sidney only has 13.3 points per game. The team’s leading scorer is Ravern Johnson, who is putting up 18.2 points per game. However, the bottom line is that the Bulldogs just aren’t all that good. They’re barely a .500 team, and they aren’t even scoring 69.2 points per game, and for a team that really has historically played well in the SEC, this is a huge shock. Defensively, things aren’t all that much better either, as MSU is allowing 70.6 points per game. The squad has given up 81 and 86 points in losses to the Georgia Bulldogs and the Vanderbilt Commodores, and even with all of the suspensions lifted, there just isn’t enough talent to be able to overcome those types of numbers.

The Gators aren’t nearly as good as they have played this year, while the Bulldogs probably aren’t nearly as bad. There are only so many games in the SEC that you can win on the road before you get picked off by a team like this, and this is what Florida is going to find out on Saturday. Back the Bulldogs.
